Bihar to Approve Renewable Energy and Pumped Storage Policies Within 15 Days
Bihar is set to take a big step toward clean energy. The state’s Renewable Energy Policy and Pumped Storage Policy will be passed by the cabinet within 15 days, Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary and Energy Minister Bijendra Prasad Yadav announced at the Bihar Renewable Energy Expo 2025 held at Patna’s Taramandal Auditorium.
The Deputy CM shared that Sun Pharma has proposed an investment of ₹30,000 crore for setting up a 1200 MW solar power plant in the state. “The state government spends ₹15,000 crore annually on electricity — a quarter of its ₹60,000 crore internal revenue,” he added.
Growth in Access to Electricity
Twenty years ago, just 17 lakh households in Bihar had electricity. Today, that number has grown to 2.14 crore.
Energy Minister Yadav emphasized the role of solar and renewable energy in controlling carbon emissions and meeting long-term energy goals.

On this occasion, SIDBI General Manager Anubha Prasad noted that India aims to generate 500 GW of renewable energy by 2030, including 300 GW of solar power. She promised full support to entrepreneurs setting up solar plants and component manufacturing units in Bihar.
