Muzaffarpur is taking a big step to improve city infrastructure and tackle waterlogging. A skywalk will soon be constructed between Imlichatti Bus Stand and Muzaffarpur Railway Junction, allowing pedestrians to move directly over the road, without crossing busy traffic zones.

In a joint meeting between RLDA and the Municipal Corporation, the proposal for a skywalk was approved. The goal is to make passenger movement safe and hassle-free, especially for those arriving by train or bus.

Skywalk Design to Be Prepared

Municipal Commissioner Vikram Virkar proposed the skywalk, and a detailed design will soon be created. Once finalized, the construction will begin to provide a direct link from the bus stand to the station via an elevated walkway.

Officials from RLDA, including Joint GM Prabhat Ranjan, were present at the meeting and gave their consent to proceed with the project.

New Drainage System for Station Road

To tackle frequent waterlogging near Station Road, Katthi Pul, and surrounding areas, the city will implement the “Sump Pumping System” (SAMP Pranali) in collaboration with the Railways.

Key details:

  • Pumps will be installed on both sides of Katthi Pul
  • When rainwater exceeds a certain level, it will automatically drain into Fardo Nala
  • Wards 11, 20, 21, 23, and 24 will benefit directly from this system

The narrow outlet near Katthi Pul has long caused flooding in nearby areas like Sadar Hospital Road, Dharamshala Chowk, and Motijheel, especially during monsoon.

Unified Coordination for Execution

“A joint coordination team will be formed between the Railways and Municipal Corporation to implement the project,” said Municipal Commissioner Vikram Virkar.
“This effort aims to strengthen urban infrastructure and reduce flooding during the rainy season.”
